Last week the US House of representative voted against funding an entirely new generation of nuclear weapons. Instead the proposed funds will used to maintain the existing stockpile of over 4000 warheads. the bill goes on the US senate where the decision may be overturned in favour of the bill.

New Scientist reports on a US Report recommending urgent actiosn to stop smuggling of ingredients for Nuclear Weapons:
"Since 1992, security officials around the world have confiscated weapons-grade uranium or plutonium a total of 16 times. In each case, the amount of radioactive materials was never more than about 100 grams, far short of the 8 kilograms or more needed to make a nuclear bomb, yet these events are still a cause for grave concern."
